Lift up Table

Overview

This project is a custom lift-up coffee table designed for improved functionality and everyday convenience. The table incorporates a pre-manufactured lifting mechanism, which I structurally adapted and integrated into a fully custom table frame.

The goal was to transform a standard living-room table into a practical multi-use surface that can rise smoothly for working, eating, or laptop use. To achieve this, the table structure was redesigned in CAD, reinforced to handle load stresses, and aligned precisely with the lifting mechanism’s geometry and motion path.

The final result is a stable, smooth-operating lift-up table that functions like commercial high-end furniture, while being entirely customized to fit the client’s space, materials, and desired aesthetics.

Challenge

The main challenge was adapting an off-the-shelf lifting mechanism to a completely custom table design. The mechanism’s mounting geometry, lever forces, and motion path had to be structurally supported to ensure that the extended tabletop would remain stable, safe, and wobble-free. Additionally, the internal table frame had to be redesigned to support the weight of the lifted surface without flexing or putting stress on the mechanism.

Solution

I redesigned the table’s internal structure using CAD to match the lift mechanism’s dimensions, hinge offsets, and force distribution. Reinforcement beams were added to support the mechanism. The final assembly was test-fitted, adjusted for smooth movement, and reinforced to prevent lateral movement when extended. The result is a compact, stable, and highly functional lift-up table with a clean finished look.
